"Mama!" The tiny impatient wail finally began to rouse SunShine from her pleasant slumber. She tried to resist, but the little voice was more persistant. Finally she caved in and smiled without opening her eyes. She didn't need to. She'd have recognized that little impatient voice anywhere, even without it making any sound at all more than likely. It was she and TwilightStorm's son, JayKit. Scarcely a moon old he was already showing all the spunk of a mischeivious little rebel. SunShine had a feeling the cat he looked a great deal like would have been extremely proud. SunShine finally gave in completely an opened her eyes. JayKit stood with his face less than a mouse-length away from her nose. His purplish-black features were twisted in a half scowl of disgust, eyes positively burning with the eager impatience that pervaded his personality. SunShine loved him all the more for it. She could see the fierce cat he would grow into one day.
"Finally!" JayKit announced, stepping back. "I thought you were going to sleep forever!" He stifled a yawn, and if asked he would vehemently deny having been awake since not long after moonhigh. "You promised we could go and play in the camp this morning!" The last quarter moon had been wet and windy, and SunShine had kept her little ones in the den most of the time, deciding it would be too great a risk for greencough if she let them out. But the rains and winds had passed now, and it was a warm and bright GreenLeaf morning now.
The second kit in the den, actually the older of the two, was a pale gray she-kit named LavanderKit. In striking contrast to her brother, she sat waiting quietly and patiently. Where her brother was active, prone to tantrums, and utterly lacking any ability to wait for anything, LavanderKit was quiet, obediant, and never seemed to get frustrated at all. It was SunShine's opinion that if her son and daughter teamed up they would be indestructible.
Sunshine stood and stretched. "No, what I said was you could play in the camp today if it was dry and sunny. I never promised, and I certainly never said at the crack of dawn my dear." She licked the top of JayKit's head between his ears and he immediately pawed at his head, falling to the ground making disgusted noises. SunShine smiled at him, knowing perfectly well that he actually rather enjoyed it. She walked over to her daughter and the little she-kit lifter her head up to touch her nose to her Mother's. "Good morning, Mama."
